A Week of Leaves

Leaf collection season is upon us.  Fortunately the Village has a curbside collection of leaves every fall and, like last year, we have been focusing on getting maximum value from this service.  And so, for the past week, pretty much every afternoon has been spent buttoning up the property for winter.

We use the rake, tarp and drag routine — raking an area, moving the leaves onto a tarp reserved for the purpose, and dragging it curbside at the front of the house.

With the quantity of trees we have in the yard and therefore massive amounts of leaves, this process is a lot of work.  With the recent bit of warm and sunny weather it has been almost enjoyable.  Outdoor furniture is stored, but I still need to get the planters inside the carriage house. We are pretty much finished with the leaves at this point, but every day that remains before collection allows for cleanup of areas that have been omitted in previous years.

Today may be the last of the nice warm weather, so hoping to complete a restoration job on a 1960’s era Danish daybed that will ultimately reside in the carriage house.

Then it will be time to settle in for winter.

A more accurate representation of leaf raking. Though much more has been added.

A more accurate representation of leaf raking. Though this amount has probably been doubled.
