Framed Penn Yan Postcards

Framed Penn Yan Postcards

Finally we are making some progress with hanging things on the wall.  It has taken a while, and thinking about it, we really did need to wait to see the rooms come together — it has become the last decorating touch that provides a room with a sense of uniformity and completion.

The frame shown above is distinctly modern in flavor, however when we saw it, it struck us as just right for framing vintage postcards.  We acquired the frame from T. J. Maxx for $30, black was the only color option at the store we purchased from. Once we knew our next living destination was Penn Yan, NY we began to collect vintage ephemera including postcards. Mostly from eBay, though a few were from local antique stores.

Though we have plenty of cards to choose from, we selected these nine cards because we found them interesting and mostly within walking distance of our house.  When we have traveled, it has always been fun when the B & B / hotel where we have lodged has had guidebooks, maps, old local images and so on available.  Whether it be framed (in the case of maps and old photos) or on the bookshelf (guidebooks).

So we both felt a display of some classic images would add a nice touch to the decor, though clearly is not Victorian.  The frame does pick up the black in our wallpaper. Technically modern, we like it and think it works.  The cost of the postcards average about $4 each, adding the cost of the frame @ $30 — this interesting historical focus for the room rings in at less than $70.

The pillow cushion seen in the image was a fifty-cent find in a store on Flatbush, just before we left Brooklyn.
